Keeping the Faith for Marriage Equality

Interfaith Candlelight Rally to Support Marriage Equality with
Dramatic Reading from Harvey Milk's "Hope Speech"
Monday, November 2, 6pm
Gather at 5:45pm at the First Christian Church, 80 S. Fifth Street, San Jose
March to San Jose City Hall

  • Harvey Milk’s “Hope Speech” excerpt performed by professional actor and Santa Clara University drama professor Aldo Billingslea
  • Words of encouragement from Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese
  • Music led by Ruth Huber and the Metropolitan Community Church of San Jose choir
  • Prayers & inspiration from rabbis, ministers and other diverse faith leaders
  • Local teen speaks out for justice
  • Same-sex couples legally married commit to solidarity and hope*
*Join a special contingent of same-sex couples who were legally married between May and November last year!  Together we will promise to "Keep the light on" for those who are now denied that right.

Please bring candles with glass or plastic protective cups so wax does not spill!

Support friends in Maine and Washington state as they face ballot measures the next day - election day - which would strip same-sex couples of relationship protections.

Directions to Church: First Christian Church is between San Fernando and Santa Clara and has easy VTA access!
Driving: From anywhere in the bay area, take 280 to San Jose.  Exit onto 11th Street (one way), turn left onto San Fernando and right onto Fifth St.  The church is the last building on the right before you come to the back of the San Jose City Hall.
Parking: There is a large parking garage at the corner of 4th St. and San Fernando, only a half block away.
