COUNCIL OF CHURCHES ADOPTS HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCACY PROGRAM

Harry White has been active in human rights issues since the 1980's. His vocation is Engineering. He and his wife Karen were residents of San Carlos from 1996 to 2010, and attended Epiphany Episcopal Church.

The information for the letters comes from various organizations and websites, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, alerts from various Christian churches, and so forth. Background information is provided for each letter in the form of links to the websites.

"A small amount of effort on our part can result in the release of prisoners of conscience and victims of torture," says Harry. "With the new website from ECUMEMO, all that people need to do is download the letters, change the return address, sign them and mail them. My experience is that many people in the coffee hour after church are eager to have the opportunity to do a simple task...sign a letter...that will have so much positive impact, and is so consistent with the Christian principles that they just heard in the church service! With one coordinator at each church (able to download, print, then mail the letters after signatures), we can have a powerful program

This month’s letters and background information can be downloaded, with a local congregation replacing the name of the Church of the Epiphany with their own name and mailing address.
